Master Falconer

Master Falconer
On Thursday afternoon, James Eyring, master falconer from Pace University, paid us a visit. He demonstrated his art with owls and birds of prey. It's always a treat to have Jim with us.

Sensory Trail with Mr. Jordon & Mrs. Fugarino

Before starting the activity, students were engaged in a conversation about the five senses.  What would happen if one of your senses were taken away? Perhaps another sense would become stronger.  What senses do animals depend on to thrive in their habitat? A bird of prey has a keen sense of sight, while a deer has excellent hearing. Students embarked on a roped course blindfolded, while focusing on their sense of touch and hearing to get them to the end.
Reaching the end of the trail.

Pond Study Up Close & Personal

Mr. Levine and Mrs. LaMar guided students through a hands-on exploration of the pond. Students used nets to retrieve pond specimens so they could look at them more closely.  Later, an electron microscope would be used to observe organisms under the microscope's high power magnification.

Low Ropes Course

"Watch out Ms. Hill!"

Team work helped the group navigate the course and place the planks for crossing.

North West Hike with Ms. Young

It's quite the little trek to the top and Ms. Young is full of spirit and is always ready to take the next group up.  I joined one of the groups and got a healthy workout.

Predator Night

Not quite a smile, but camera ready!

Mr. Levine and Mrs. Hill prepare the evening snack after the presentation.

Siblings at Fishkill

It happens almost every year that a 7th grader gets to share their Fishkill trip with an older sibling. High school students join us on the trip as Counselors, so these students are likely to have a younger sibling attending the trip as a 7th grader.

Survival Skills with Mrs. Gavagan & Mr. Padovani..stay tuned

Wolf Conservation Center

On Friday October 3rd, the WCC out of South Salem New York, came for their annual visit. Atka, the ambassador wolf/teacher, gave everyone a close-up to a few of his behaviors.  This Arctic Wolf is a busy ambassador. He travels quite a bit and helps teach the importance of wolves in our ecosystem and the role they play.  The WCC helps raise awareness about the plight of several species of wolves; the Mexican Gray Wolf, the Red Wolf and the Gray Wolf.
